Rocky’s Knockout One Liner Every Student Needs.
I’m a Rocky fan and the newest movie in the Rocky Balboa series “Creed” staring Sylvester Stallone, comes out this fall.
I’ll admit to being very excited about this film. Anyone familiar with this iconic film series will also recognize the films narrative. We’ll see the underdog fighting for their shot at greatness, if only he can find within himself the heart, strength, and resilience to overcome any adversity, and there are many to overcome.
It’s the stories narrative that draws us to these films. We disparately want to see the underdog win. The reason is simple. We see in ourselves the same struggles. These struggles are especially true for our students.
Many of our students don’t see their own unique strengths and potential. All they see the in themselves is their weaknesses and the obstacles to success. It becomes our responsibility as caring adults to help them identify and focus on their strengths, and to become resilient. We need to help students step up and take command and control of their futures, to make quality choices that will guide them forward in life, and how to lead others along the way.
Here’s the movie trailer for Creed. At the end of the trailer, Rocky issues the knockout one liner of advice to his young fighter that he needs to hear. It’s a perfect one liner that every student needs to hear.
Adonis Creed, is standing in front of a mirror looking at himself with Rocky at his side, and Rocky tells him, “See this guy here? That’s the toughest appoint you’re ever going to have to face. At least that’s true in the ring, and I think it’s true in life. Now show me something.”
Our students stand in the ring everyday. They fight their own underdog fights. Let’s help them look into the mirror and see themselves as champions. Let’s make sure they know they have everything they need to fight the good fight, to win the race and become all of who they are made to be.
“Now show me something.”
